Summary of this Tutorial:

We'll look at 5 categories to use for comparison: cost, ease of use, design, flexibility, and ecommerce.

With Wix the basic builder is free, but it adds Wix branded ads on the top and bottom of your site.

The second issue is you can't have your own custom domain with the free version.

For WordPress, the software itself is free, but you do need to purchase hosting and your own domain to set up your site.

Depending on your budget, you can go with something as low as $3.95 a month to something like WPEngine which costs $29 a month.

Next is ease of use.

Wix comes with a great drag and drop interface to build your site with and rearrange things on your pages, write content and add media.

WordPress has a visual editor to write your content with and has a theme customizer to let you edit your theme properties, but it does not have a drag and drop functionality so Wix is the winner for ease of use.

Design and layout.

Wix has 500+templates to choose from whereas WordPress has thousands of free and paid themes to choose from.

And if you purchase a premium theme, then you also have premium support with them.

for extending functionality you can add plugins and apps to your site.

Wix comes with 200+ apps that you can add to your site.

Most apps are free or have a lite version and WordPress has over 38,000 plugins to extend your site's functionality.

Finally let's look at ecommerce.

With Wix you can have an ecommerce store with their paid plans only and you can only accept payments using Paypal or authorize.net

To sell online you'll have to pay extra for third party apps for selling online.

With WordPress, you have several free plugins that you can use to build your online store and accept payments via several payment processors with dedicated themes designed for online selling.
