Summary of this Tutorial:

Start by signing up with with a hosting company so you have a place to put your site.

Log in to your WordPress.com site go to Tools, Export and choose export all content and click download export file.

Save the xml file locally and this should be all of your content.

You would then want to follow our tutorial on how to install WordPress below.

With WordPress installed go to Tools, Import pick WordPress from the list

Install and activate the importer and choose your xml file.

During the import you can choose who the files are assigned to and a checkbox to import the images.

If your xml file is larger than 2mb you'll need to ask your hosting company to increase the limit or split the xml file.

Now your site should be moved mostly but you need some cleanup.

On your old site you'll want to either set your WordPress.com site to private under Settings, Reading

or use their offsite redirect.
