Summary of this tutorial:

The default WordPress search is not always useful, it usually fails to find the relevant results. While there are many search plugins for WordPress they will need to be managed and they will impact your server resources.

You can use a plugin to connect the search on to your site. Start by installing and activating the WP Google Search plugin.

Once activated you would visit the Settings, WP Google Search area to configure your search settings. It will ask you to provide a Google Search Engine id which means you will need to go to the Google Custom Search site.

Log in and click on the New Search Engine link. Provide your site's URL in the Sites to Search field, choose the language of your site, and and click on the create button to continue.

Google will now create your site's search engine and will show you a success message. Go to the Control panel and grab your Search Engine ID to add it to your site.

Once you add your Google Search Engine id into the field and save changes you will have a custom Google Search for your site. Just add the WP Google Search widget so your users will be able to use the search.

Should your Google Search not appear how you like, in your control panel you will be able to edit the look of the results page.
