Summary of this Tutorial:

GitHub is a code hosting service for open source projects.

Before you install a WordPress theme or plugin from GitHub make sure you are able to receive updates for it.

Installing a GitHub plugin is like installing a WordPress plugin manually.

First go to the plugin / theme's repository on GitHub, on the right sidebar of the main page you will see a Download ZIP button.

Once you have downloaded the ZIP file login to your WordPress admin area and go to Plugins, Add New. You will need to manually upload from your computer.

Click on the upload tab and select the ZIP file from your computer and click the Install Now button. You can then click on Activate Plugin link to activate the plugin on your site.

To get updates for plugins from GitHub either the plugin / theme will have code to enable you to receive automatic updates or they may ask you to install GitHub Updater.
