The way this blog looks is determined by the Wordpress Theme I am using. At first, I've just left the theme alone and created some content to get my blog started. Now, it's time to give this blog a personal look. Here's the last screenshot of my blog in its original state:

I'm going to install a new theme. Check out these sites to find a wordpress theme that pleases your eye and suits your needs:
Wordpress Theme Viewer
Alex King's Theme Browser
There are lots of different themes out there. I'm going to choose the Ads Minded Wordpress Theme from Sapiensbryan.com, because it has some good built-in plugins and a good preplacement scenario for Google Adsense Ads, and it has a lot of built-in web2.0 features. Great for us Newbies, because the work has been done for us!
I recommend this theme - if you're not entirely happy with the design, you can modify it later. Download the theme here.
Now we need to upload the theme into our Wordpress directory.
First, log in to your Bluehost cPanel. Now, choose File Manager (see picture)

Click File Manager in the top right box. This will open up a new window with your server files and folders listed.

Now click the folder symbol in front of public_html (sometimes the file manager will not react properly to the click and just reloads your current folder — you just have to click again to get there). Next, click the folder symbol in front of wp_content, and on the next page, again click the folder symbol next to themes
Now, click on the Upload new file(s) link, and hit choose file, then find the ads-minded-wordpress-theme.zip on your own hard disk, and hit upload.
Now, in file manager, click on the ads-minded-wordpress-theme.zip file name and look at the right sidebar - a menu should appear, with the option to extract file contents. Choose this. A new window will open and a lot of file names will scroll. After the page has stopped filling, you can close that window to return back to file manager. Now you will have a new folder in your themes directory: asd-minded-wordpress-theme. Click on the folder symbol next to this. Now click on the folder symbol next to themes, then click on adsminded - don't click the folder symbol, click on the text itself this time. Now look at the right sidebar, and select "move this folder". Then navigate using the folder symbols on the left until you are at /public_html/wp_content/ and then click on Themes - again click the text itself, not the folder symbol. This should move your adsminded folder to the proper themes folder.
Next, navigate back to /public_html/wp-content/themes/ads-minded-wordpress-theme/. Now click on the text of plugins, and choose move again, and navigate to /public_html/wp_content/ and click on the text of /plugins folder. Now you're all set and ready to go back to your wp-admin dashboard.
On the Dashboard, go to the plugins tab. Look at the image below: Activate all your plugins by clicking "activate" on the right hand side. You should end up with all these plugins activated, except for Hello, Dolly and Akismet. Click until you have a similar looking list (activated are green).

Now, go to the Presentation tab. Here just click on the "Ads Minded" 1.3 by Sapiens Bryan, then let Wordpress work its magic, and voila! You have a new theme. Reload your blog's main page and admire the result.

[…] Enter the wonderful Wordpress plugin calledOptimal Title. This plugin will automatically produce title tags that contain, first, the title of the current post or category, and, second, the blog title. If, like me, you are using the Ads Minded Wordpress Theme, you already have the plugin installed. If you have not activated the plugin yet and don’t know how to do it, see a previous post of mine for detailed instructions. If you haven’t got this plugin yet, just visit the Optimal Title home page, download and install the plugin as instructed. Then activate it from the Wordpress Dashboard –> Plugins. […]
