Host Your Blog

OK, so now we've found our passion and decided to spread the good word. Now we need someone to host our blog for us. You've got some options here. If you're short of cash, you can start out with the free hosts, such as Wordpress Free - you can join over 200,000 other bloggers and have Wordpress host your blog for free.

However, if you're serious about this endeavour, I recommend that you grab your own domain, and set your blog up on a web host and use Wordpress as a platform.

I registered the domain "innerblogger.com" with Bluehost because they were recommended by Wordpress, affordable, and offer a wide range of easy-to-use features (including automatic installation of Wordpress). I've also been very happy with their helpful and patient customer support so far. This is especially important for beginners.

The cost:
Term: 12 Months
Setup Fee: $0
Domain Fee: $0.00
Hosting Fee: $95.40 ($7.95 x 12 months)
=========
Total Bill: $95.40

This is to host my domain for one year. It may seem like a lot to pay immediately, but it's only $7.95 per month and if you're ready to put some effort into your blog, you should be able to make at least that much in advertising income in the first year, so your blog will earn its own keep.

The Bluehost plan provides enough bandwidth to support tens of thousands of visitors per day. Once your blog starts getting really busy, you may need to upgrade to a dedicated server. Bluehost does not currently offer that, so you'll need to look at alternatives, such as Hostgator
.

You've already made your biggest decision - you've decided what your blog is going to be about. Your #2 decision is to choose your domain name. This is not so easy. I went through dozens of potential domain names before landing on innerblogger.com.

Right now I've got a soccer game to watch and a pizza to eat - then I'll return with a post on how to choose the right domain name.
